Our lifestyle had changed a lot from Meiji to Showa era by the development of technology. While staying in Asuke Yashiki, you can learn Japanese culture (especially the culture and lifestyles in the era from Meiji to Showa in Japan.) by checking the exhibitions there. You can also have experiences of arts (hand labor) such as, weaver, indigo dyeing, bamboo work, straw work, making Gohei mochi (a kind of rice cake) and blacksmithing there if you want. (You need to pay an additional fee for this. I will interpret what the craft worker says into English and explain about the arts while you are experiencing.) *From October to December, you cannot take part in this experience event.
